Medical Billing Specialist

-

Medical billing specialists prepare and submit healthcare claims to insurance payers, follow up on unpaid claims, and post payments once they're received. The role covers the full billing cycle: verifying patient insurance, entering charges accurately, submitting clean claims, and resolving rejections or denials before they become a bigger revenue problem.

This is one of the highest-volume roles in medical revenue cycle work, and it's often an entry point into the field for candidates without a coding certification. Employers include physician practices, hospital billing departments, revenue cycle outsourcing companies, and billing software vendors that staff their own client support teams.

Remote medical billing specialist pay on this board typically runs $17 to $25 an hour, with senior roles requiring coding certifications like CPC or CCS-P reaching into the $30s. Our medical biller salary guide covers pay by experience level.
